I also had to talk to lesser-known criminal lawyers, and at some point in the conversation, I asked them all about Mario, and they all told me without hesitation that he was the best. Many of them were at odds with each other, had the worst opinion of each other, and said terrible things about each other behind their backs, but they were all fascinated by Mario and recognised his rigour, professionalism and success. During that week of political turmoil in Catalonia, of fundamental rupture and great tension, only one name in my life managed to mean the opposite, that is: harmony, the highest quality and reconciliation. That name was Mario Sol. This is how cultured countries find understanding: through the best, who in their superiority create a consensus that is neither surrender nor mediocrity, but one that pushes us to grow in rigour and excellence. When I finally met Mario, I immediately realised what his colleagues meant.
